Conference Proceedings: Social Responsibility and Competitiveness: A New Model for companies?

25/06/12

The Centre d'analyse stratégique organized the first conference in February 2012:

Social responsibility and competitiveness: a new model for companies?

What is CSR? The European Commission defines it as the integration of the company’s social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their relations with stakeholders. The OECD adds that it expects companies to comply with various laws applicable to them and must in practice meet societal expectations that are not included in these laws. The central aspect of CSR is that these requirements imposed on businesses, have responsibilities beyond the simple legal framework. Indeed, although law enforcement is a necessity, we expect more from companies. However, such an approach is impossible.

This conference devoted to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in all aspects, traced its historical development and highlighted its use in large and small businesses.

Vincent Chriqui, Director General of Centre d'analyse stratégique (CAS) first presented the work that the CAS has done on these issues.

Then, a first panel addressed the current business practices in CSR and the advice they have to give in this regard. A second panel looked at the economic impact and the role that CSR plays in terms of competitiveness, which are well established.

Daniel Lebegue, President of the French Institute of Directors and the Observatory for Corporate Social Responsibility, participated in two roundtables.
