Public life-long guidance service (Policy Brief 302 - November 2012)
The law of November 24th 2009 establishes a public guidance service (PGS). This note analyses its deployment on the territory, the terms of its management and its effects on the organization of guidance services.

Guidance belongs to the group of activities designed to help people at any point in their lives, to make a choice of education, training and career. In a context of increased professional mobility and unemployment, guidance activities become increasingly crucial. Seizing the strategic orientation, the law of November 24th 2009 on life-long guidance and training establishes a public life-long guidance service (PGS)
PGS aims to guarantee to all individuals, regardless of their status, an access to free and unbiased information on careers and training opportunities, as well as access to counseling and guidance counselors .
The deployment of the PGS, certainly still unequally distributed across the country, benefits from many regional initiatives related to networking guidance services, professionalization of practitioners, the increased use of information and communication technologies and good practices that should be spread.
