Rerun of “Les Rendez-vous du CAS”: "9 billion people to feed" with Marion Guillou
The Centre d’analyse stratégique invites you to re-watch “les Rendez-vous du CAS” about the book 9 billion people to feed by Marion Guillou and Gérard Matheron
Are we heading for a major global food crisis? To properly feed nine billion people by 2050, an increasing amount of food that meet high quality standards will have to be produced. This will have to be achieved by respecting the environment more than we do today. In addition, some land will need to be used for energy production and industrial goods or carbon storage and biodiversity protection. Thus, innovation is vital in order to reduce losses and wastage, and reduce excessive food consumption while simultaneously lifting the billions of people suffering from hunger out of poverty.
These are the topics the authors evoke in this very rich book, offering many means for reform and operational solutions to address what will be one of the great challenges of this century.
Marion Guillou is a bridge, water and forest engineer, a graduate of “Ecole Polytéchnique” and the president of the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA).
Gérard Matheron is an agricultural engineer, a Doctor of quantitative genetics and president of the Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research for Development (CIRAD).
