The holiday of the French favor the departure of as many (Policy Brief 234 - July 2011)

26/07/11

The proportion of French people going on holiday at least once a year (defined as a displacement of approval of four nights) is above the European average.

However, even if the public effort is important, the rate of departure has not grown for ten years, reaching a threshold below 70%, and nearly one in two French will not go away this summer. Beyond the financial disincentives, which are the first ground, causes personal, professional and deliberate choices are identified.

At equivalent standard of living, the propensity to be satisfied with their daily living environment increases by 30% when we went on vacation during the past year. The expected benefits of a policy to facilitate early are numerous both in terms of welfare as empowerment, social links, parenting support or fight against exclusion.

Work for access to holidays as many calls for action on the solvency of individuals but also on the evolution of supply to meet the needs of specific audiences (youth, persons leaving or rarely in those situations disabilities, family caregivers, seniors). Alignment means, coupled with a new impulse shared, could achieve more ambitious goals.
